LinkedIn for free publicity – how to publish posts
In this video, you will learn a trick for using LinkedIn to let your entire social network know what you’re doing, and by the way, LinkedIn does this for you FOR FREE! If youre like a lot of people on LinkedIn, you know it is a really powerful tool for both growing your network and growing your sales. But you dont know the best use of time when it comes to your activities on LinkedIn. Im going to share with you a trick that I found, that as of right now – it’s the only way to let your entire social network on LinkedIn know exactly what it is you’re doing about without being spammy. Its actually just giving your network a heads up and LinkedIn does it on your behalf. Looking at LinkedIns homepage, you’ve probably seen these three options: 1) Share an Update 2) Upload a Photo 3) Publish a Post. Sharing an Update and Uploading a Photo are really like the same thing. Linkedin prompts you by saying: What’s on your mind? Is it something about you personally, something about your company, or maybe it’s an industry news item that you found? To do so, youll want to copy and paste your update in the Share An Update section and then click on the picture icon (right side of the text box) and add your photo. Or you could start with adding photo in the Upload a Photo tab and instead of adding the verbiage first and then adding a photo, this is the opposite. Add your photo first, then the verbiage. The way that these two work is a lot like Facebook. You’ll notice that under the section where you would add your update, its basically like the Newsfeed on Facebook. In this tutorial, youll notice that I’ve Liked a lot of updates that Trang has posted from Forbes. What LinkedIn will do now is show me exactly what it believes is important to me. If I scroll down, you’re going to see that I have all kinds of news items here that are from all the people that I know and follow. It shows me, in reverse order of the importance, what LinkedIn thinks I want to see. So this is a fleeting area, if I don’t read this now, I’ll never be shown it again because it’s constantly updated. Well, there’s another way to do this and itll let your entire network know what it is that youre doing and it’s by using the Publishing a Post tab. Very few people know about this and very few people do this. As an example, when you click the Publish a Post tab, youll see in this video an article that I posted in November 30th, just after Black Friday. The post is about an observation that I had about Costco, Nordstrom, and REI and why none of them have to do anything for Black Friday because their culture. By using the Publish a Post section, I can add a photo and a title to my article using LinkedIn’s native publishing platform. When you scroll down, what youll see is a lot like word processor or if you’ve ever done any kind of web based work, you recognize the Heading options and other options as a way to start marking up your text to show both the search engines as well as the readers of your article, what is important. For example, the block quote icon is basically a way of getting people to stop, pay attention, and say Okay, that’s what Spencer talking about. You also see that you can mark up your text with bold, underline text, justification, bullet points, etc. You can also add links, photos, and videos. In this example, you can see I went through this article and added H2 tag, which is just a fancy way of saying that I want people to pay attention to a particular section, I also added some bullet points, a photo, more verbiage, a link so people could fact-check, and then at the very end I asked a question. Once you click Publish (at the top), your entire network is notified. Up at the top of your menu bar (near your LinkedIn profile picture) – in the flag icon drop down, you will notice all of the people you are connected to and what they have published as well. This is a great feature of LinkedIn because when your entire network logs in, they will see a little red dot up by their flag icon and they will know you have written something to share. The bonus is that when someone from your network feels that your article is of value to them and to their target customer, they will share it to their network. This is a great way to stop stay top of mind, FOR FREE, on LinkedIn.
