LinkedIn Overview Jan 2017 – Part One
Many Changes in LinkedIn recently! Here’s a overview of LinkedIn’s purpose and elements.
How to build an awesome LinkedIn profile
In first class I will go over how to set up an engaging LinkedIN profile. There are three things you should focus on: passion, impact and recommendations. In the second class, I will go over how to use the LinkedIn to build network. How to ask for recommendations: “Dear John, Hope you are well. I am reaching out to ask if you can write a brief recommendation about our work together at XYZ. As you know, I am deeply passionate about the topic of Urban Planning and updating LinkedIn Profile for my job-search. Since you are someone I highly respect, if would be great if you can write a few line of recommendations. Thanks so much for your help and let me know if there is anything I can be of assistance in return. Cheers,Lily” LinkedIN profile for references: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phanlily https://sg.linkedin.com/in/darrentngwz More info: https://innerfire.me/building-an-awesome-linkedin-profile/
STOP Using These 3 Words On Your LinkedIn Profile
J.T. O’Donnell Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ The Best LinkedIn Tips for 2018: https://youtu.be/GpdrYXNaoyk Okay, so what three words do you absolutely NEED to avoid using on your LinkedIn profile? The answer is… Actively seeking opportunities This phrase, as well as variations of it, can completely ruin your chances of being found by recruiters, let alone getting a job interview. Heres why It hurts your keyword optimization. Recruiters look for talent on LinkedIn by searching for specific keywords that relate to the job theyre trying to fill. For example, if a recruiter was trying to fill a Digital Marketing Specialist role, he or she might look for keywords like digital marketing, email marketing, blogging, and so on. All of these keywords are relevant skill sets that a digital marketing specialist would have on their profile. So, when youre saying actively seeking opportunities in your headline, youre missing the opportunity to keyword optimize and youre decreasing your chances of being found by recruiters. Waste of valuable real estate. Recruiters only spend a few seconds reviewing profiles of potential candidates, so you want to make sure youre showcasing the best, more impactful information at the top of you profile. When you opt to use meaningless phrases like looking for opportunities, specifically your top fold, youre wasting valuable real estate on your profile. Youre choosing to use phrases like that instead of being intentional and strategic with what you add to your profile. Words like that add nothing to your profile because they dont help you brand yourself for a specific job and they dont help you increase your keyword density on your profile. It makes you look desperate. When you put phrases on your profile like seeking new opportunities, it can hurt your personal brand, and ultimately, your chances of landing a job interview. This phrase makes you look desperate for a job, and employers arent necessarily going to want to bring you in if youre essentially begging for employment. Why? Its a risk. If youll do anything to get a job right now, even if its not the right fit for you, you might leave that company within a few months when you find a better opportunity. It costs employers a lot of time and money when employees leave, so its a big risk. So, if you do one thing today, REMOVE that phrase from your profile! It wont help you get a new job. _______________________________________ Free Tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ If you want J.T.
